EU Not Ready to Enforce Pollution Rules, Airlines Say
Airlines have informed the European Union that they are currently unable to comply with new pollution regulations due to the absence of the EU’s promised National Emissions Accounting and Trading System (NEATS) required for data reporting. The rules mandate tracking and reporting of pollutants like soot, nitrogen oxides, and water vapor, which contribute significantly to global warming. The European Commission plans to launch the system in 2025 and will consult the industry on the data models soon. However, Transport & Environment, a campaign group, emphasized that the rules should not be delayed despite the current challenges, asserting the importance of this non-CO2 aviation emissions legislation.
