Joby Aviation CEO Insists Flying Taxis Are ‘Just Few Steps from Finish Line’

Joby Aviation’s CEO, JoeBen Bevirt, announced that flying taxis are imminent, potentially transforming urban transport. Joby’s eVTOL aircraft, capable of 200 mph and 100 miles range, aims to cut travel times drastically. Although Dubai could see commercial flights by 2025, the US may face delays due to stricter regulations. The FAA has created a new “powered lift” aircraft category to facilitate air taxi operations. Other companies, including Archer Aviation, Volocopter, Lilium, and EHang, are also advancing in the eVTOL field. To support these aircraft, significant infrastructure development is required, such as new air traffic management systems and vertiports. Investors have heavily backed the industry, illustrating a strong belief in the future of urban air mobility. Despite challenges, the sector is slowly moving towards broader implementation, with air taxis predicted to become more affordable over time.
